Pony88 Executive Chairman William Christolm and Executive Chairman Vic Grusbeck reiterated the Boston Celtics’ strategy for the 2025-26 season, saying they are still a team playing for the NBA championship, despite many unfavorable factors.
The fallout from mainstay forward Jayson Tatum having Achilles tendon surgery and missing the entire season, Jrue Holiday being traded to the Portland Trail Blazers or center Kristaps Porzingis being traded to the Atlanta Hawks and Elle Horford being released from his contract.
The Celtics are reportedly on the verge of a relegation, but management has also declared its ambitions, saying the squad is ready to chase the Larry O’Brien Trophy.
Part of the reason is because Chris Holm, as the big boss, invested $6.1 billion to buy the franchise from the Grusbeck family, even though the task at hand was to clean up the sky-high wage structure.
“We’re not playing basketball for second place. We’re playing for championships and banners,” Chris Holmes said.
“ We are playing to get there soon , but in the near future the next thing to do is to reduce player wage costs to below the second threshold .”
“ Because when the problem of player wages reaches the second limit, it ’s not enough to just inject more money and solve the problem. ”
“ You have to do it with skilled people , you have to do it with leadership , and under Vic , along with COO Brad Stevens , CEO Rick Gotham and head coach Joe Mazzulla , they ‘re some of the best in the league. ”
The Celtics’ core players for next season include Jaylen Brown , Derrick White and Peyton Pritcherd. Pony88
