ในรอบรองชนะเลิศ พาณิภัค ลงเจอกับ กัวะ จู จากจีน มือวางอันดับ 2 ของรายการ ปรากฏว่า พาณิภัค แพ้ไปในยกแรก 7-22 ก่อนจะกลับมาชนะในยกที่สอง 19-15 ส่วนในยกที่ 3 พาณิภัค แพ้ไป 9-26 ส่งผลให้ตกรอบรองชนะเลิศคว้าเหรียญทองแดงในครั้งนี้

นับเป็นการพลาดคว้าแชมป์ 2 รายการติดต่อกัน หลังจากที่ในสัปดาห์ที่ผ่านมา พลาดท่าตกรอบ 8 คนสุดท้ายในศึกชิงแชมป์เอเชีย ซึ่งทั้งสองรายการ พาณิภัค ไม่ได้ลงเล่นในรุ่นน้ำหนักปกติของตัวเองคือ 49 กิโลกรัม
