The couple lived together for a long time until the woman died on Monday after battling a serious illness. 

The former Liverpool and Spurs star took to social media to bid farewell to his beloved wife on Friday, writing: “Our world is still on November 4th. Pia closed her eyes forever after a long illness.”

“We would like to thank everyone who has walked this difficult path with us and for their compassion and empathy.”

“Pia, you will always be alive in our hearts. There are still traces of our lives, our thoughts, the pictures of our time with you. These things will remind us of you and make us happy and sad. We will never forget you.”
