Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke believes the criticism the club are currently facing is unfair, especially on social media, Kicker reported on Sunday.
Dortmund have had a difficult start to the season, trailing leaders Bayern Munich by 10 points from their opening 11 games ahead of next weekend’s clash with ‘Der Klassiker’.
Inconsistent performances have seen Borussia Dortmund come under constant criticism, with coach Nuri Şahin and captain Emre Can often being attacked by mainstream media and on social media, which Watzke, as a senior executive, sees as unfair.
‘There is constant unrest,’ Watzke says of criticism of Dortmund during club’s annual general meeting
‘Sometimes I feel like unity has been replaced by impatience. Are we fighting a relegation battle? We’ve just reached the Champions League final and we were millimetres away from winning the Bundesliga last year. We’re financially more secure than most clubs.’
‘I feel like there’s always a riot. Social media is very cruel and the media allows itself to be influenced by it, and sometimes we do that, but we cannot do that as BVB. Our strength is always unity. Borussia Dortmund is not about creating chaos, it’s about unity. ‘ ( zbet911 )
