San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shenahan has revealed that Jason Verrett will miss the remainder of the season. After the 32-year-old cornerback injured his shoulder in practice and had to undergo surgery. According to a report from ESPN last Saturday.

Verrett is practicing in preparation for Sunday’s regular season finale game against the LA Rams. But the former first-round draft pick from the 2014 class had bad luck after jumping to catch a pass and falling on his shoulder, hitting the field. ‘He handles it like he does everything like a man,’ Shenahan said. ‘But you know how it is. He’ll probably be sad for a while. I hope he’s here because we all love him. I think it can help him. And this too shall pass as always. He has a long way to go to get back to this point. And I just told him I couldn’t believe how good he looked.’ 

The 49ers signed Verrett to the practice squad on Dec. 11, with plans for him to play a larger role in the post-season. They elevated the 32-year-old cornerback to the roster in a loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Christmas night. It was his first appearance since tearing his ACL in the first week of the 2021 season against the Detroit Lions.

Shenahan said Verrett was practicing well before falling and hitting his shoulder after jumping to catch a pass. But he was able to practice until the end of the session. But the 32-year-old cornerback still felt the pain and investigated until the bad news was discovered.

‘I don’t think it’s possible to come back from what he went through with the knee and the hamstring and everything. And he did it,’ Shenahan said. ‘And he looked good in Houston. He looked great here. It’s a great opportunity for him to play this week. Just so he can play a lot and see how he can get into the playoffs. And he accidentally injured his shoulder.’
