    The Reds paid £4million to sign the Dutch defender from Zwolle in 2019 as a youngster, but he was a regular on the bench and played mostly in the Carabao Cup before deciding to move on in the summer.

    “I’m very clear about my desire to play this season, Liverpool have the two best centre-backs in the world at the moment,” Van den Berg said. “For me it’s the right time to move, I’m at the age where I have to play.”

    “I’ve been on loan for a few years now. It was time for me to make a permanent move and establish myself as a Premier League player, and that’s what I’m doing now. I made the right decision, but there’s still a long way to go.”
