Arthur Smith is getting another chance to prove his skills in the NFL after the Pittsburgh Steelers agreed to hire him as the offensive coordinator’s new offensive coach, replacing Matt Canada, who was fired from his position in the NFL. Smith is currently unemployed after being fired by the Atlanta Falcons at the end of the 2023 season. During his three-year tenure as head coach, he recorded a 7-10 record in three seasons and never advanced to the NBA. During the post season, the Steelers hired him as the fifth offensive coach under Mike Tomlin, who had been head coach of the Steelers since 2007.  ( cup1688 )

The 41-year-old head coach heads to Pittsburgh with hopes of improving the Steelers’ defense and helping develop second-year quarterback Kenny Pickett after Smith. He helped revive Ryan Tannehill’s career as offensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans and finished the 2020 season as the No. 2 team in the NFL. which later led him to become the head coach of the Falcons. 

The Steelers’ offense ranked 28th in scoring in 2023, while Smith’s Falcons finished the season ranked 26th in scoring. 

However, Smith can still improve the Steelers offense, which is loaded with talent like running backs Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren and winger Dionte. Johnson and George Pickens, and two inside wings in Pat Freiermouth and Darnell Washington, and most importantly, finding and building a capable quarterback position. Pickett is a commanding force, including backup Mason Rudolph.
