However, the pre-season was met with an unexpected incident when Ito suffered a fractured metatarsal during a friendly match against local team Düren on Sunday, which will keep him out for several weeks.

Bayern Munich chief executive Max Eberl gave the latest update: “Yes, he has a fractured foot. He will be out for a long time. We wish him a speedy recovery.” 

The injury to the Japan international could force Bayern to speed up their bid to sign Bayer Leverkusen captain Jonathan Tah, with a fee yet to be agreed.
