Smith-Schuster was the Chiefs’ leading wide receiver in 2022, catching 78 times for 933 yards and three touchdowns, trailing only tight end Travis Kelce in both receptions and yards.
The 27-year-old wide receiver signed a three-year deal with the Patriots last offseason but struggled with injuries and inconsistency, catching just 29 passes for 260 yards in 11 games, leading the Patriots to release him earlier this month.
The Chiefs are dealing with a shoulder injury to wide receiver Marquise Brown, with Rachie Rice, Xavier Worthy and Justin Watson all starting in preseason, while Smith-Schuster will compete with Skye More, Kedarius Toney and Justin Ross for a spot.
