Negotiations are ongoing in the United States, where the two teams are playing in the Club World Cup, and although Bayern Munich were also interested in him, an agreement has now been reached for the 20-year-old to move to Stamford Bridge on a long-term deal.

Dortmund rejected a bid worth £42m earlier this month and the two sides were unable to reach an agreement before the first transfer window closed on June 10.

The two sides have finally reached an agreement amid the west London club’s push to strengthen their wing options after deciding not to trigger the option to buy Jadon Sancho.

The England Under-21 international scored 12 goals and provided five assists in 48 appearances for Dortmund in all competitions last season.

Gittens previously spent time at Stamford Bridge, having made his debut at Chelsea as a youth player before moving to Manchester City.

He moved to Germany in 2020, following in Sancho’s footsteps, and broke into Dortmund’s first-team in 2022.

Gittens has made 11 appearances for England Under-21s but was not in Lee Carsley’s squad for the Under-21 European Championship.
