Stroud becomes youngest quarterback to win a playoff game. After throwing a complete 16 of 21 passes for 274 yards, 3 touchdowns, no interceptions, rating 157.2, outside wing Nico Collins scored 1 touchdown, while two wings in Brevin Jordan and D. Alton Schultz scored one goal apiece. Running back Devin Singleterry carried the ball and ran 13 times for 66 yards and a touchdown. ( cosmo365 )
‘C.J. is the reason we’re in this position,’ Ryans said. ‘He’s special, a special young man, a special player, continuing to shine no matter how big the moment. Our whole team is leaning on him and he has the shoulders to carry that weight.’
Stroud became the highest-ranked rookie quarterback from the winning post-season draft. He tore up the Browns’ strong defense, throwing to Collins for a 15-yard score, Jordan for a 76-yarder and Schultz for a 37-yarder.
‘It’s been a year now. And I thank God I can go another week with my team-mates,’ Stroud said. ‘It’s a dream come true.’
At 22 years and 102 days old, Stroud surpassed Michael Vick, who was 22 years and 192 days old when he led his Atlanta Falcons to a win over the Green Bay Packers in play. Off in 2002
‘I feel extremely fortunate to be considered for a name as great as Michael Vick, who was my favorite quarterback growing up,’ Stroud said. ‘And I hope I’ll do it twice (win).’
Stroud threw for 236 yards and three touchdowns before halftime to help the Texans take a 24-14 lead, then their defense shined in the second half. The third quarter ‘Pick-Six’ of cornerback Steven Nelson and linebacker Christian Harris cut the lead to 38-14.
‘It’s really big to get 14 points from that. C.J. is already doing it,’ Nelson said. ‘That’s just the icing on the cake for us.’
With the Texans leading 45-14 with nine minutes remaining, Stroud’s job was done and gave Davis Mills a chance to play after that.
It was the Browns’ worst post-season loss since a 0-34 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on December 29, 1968.
