The Red Devils have accepted a £26m offer from Naples to bring the homegrown player, who has been with the club since the age of five, to work with head coach Antonio Conte, with the money likely to be used to fund a £51m move for PSG midfielder Ugarte.

As a former United player, Ferdinand disagrees with the approach, as the Scottish midfielder is valued beyond his performances on the pitch.  ( superwin636 )

“Those players are huge value, you need to have someone like that and they understand the identity, especially someone who has come through the academy – Manchester United have always been perceived as a club that pushes their academy players.” 

“I don’t think it makes sense to go and replace Scott with £30, £40, £50m – it’s not cheap.” 

“It’s like gambling. You don’t know if the new guy is going to come out heads or tails. On the contrary, you know what McTominay can do. You know his intentions.”
