Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton heaped praise on Bo Nix after the 12th overall rookie quarterback threw four touchdowns to lead the Broncos to a 38-6 victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, ESPN reported.

Nix completed 28 of 33 (84.8 percent) for 307 yards, four touchdowns, no interceptions and a career-best 145.0 rating as the Broncos move to 6-5 and stay in contention for an AFC playoff berth. 

Through the first three games of the season, Nix has had no touchdowns and four interceptions, but the rookie quarterback has continued to improve, throwing for 13 touchdowns in the past seven games, including nine scores in his last four. He’s completed at least 73 percent of his passes in the last three games and has no interceptions in four of his last five games, seventh of the season.

‘He’s adapted really well here. Third downs, red zone, there’s a lot of things he’s really good at,’ Payton said. ‘This is our league. You’re learning every week. It doesn’t take long for you to feel like, ‘I belong here,’ and he’s obviously here. ‘ 

‘You feel like you’re in good hands. He’s smart on the ball, he’s creative and at the same time he can protect the football.’

As for the Mustangs cornerback Pat Zurtan, he praised his junior, saying, “He’s him. I told him, ‘You’re trying to get MVP. You don’t even look like Offensive Rookie of the Year. You look like MVP. It’s just a testament to his ability. He’s giving it his all.’ 

Nix, who threw for 284 yards against the Carolina Panthers and 307 yards in his last outing, said: ‘These games are fun.’

‘These games are what you work for, they’re why you play these games. Events like this, I think everybody has a good day, I think everybody at this level can feel like they’re part of it. Every week like coach said, I’m going to find ways to get better.’

‘Our team is heading in the right direction and we have to find a way to continue playing like we did. Sometimes you wake up and go, it’s nice to be in my place, in my position.’ ( sakidbet )
