The Athletic reported on Wednesday that Roberto Olave has informed Real Sociedad president Joaquin Aperribay that he will step down as sporting director at La Real at the end of the season. 

The 57-year-old Olave has been Real Sociedad’s sporting director since March 2018, replacing Lorenzo Garcia, or Loren, and has become one of three pillars, along with president Aperribay and coach Imanol Alguasil, in creating the club’s most stable and successful era. 

Olave is currently contracted until the summer of 2026 but feels his job at the club is done and has informed Aperribay that he will leave the club at the end of the season, in order to give La Real enough time to find a replacement. 

Olave’s departure is a huge loss for Real Sociedad, with speculation the 57-year-old could head to England to take up the same role at Arsenal following Edu Gaspar’s departure, having established a good relationship with Gunners boss Mikel Arteta. ( sunlit1688 )
