Gardner Minshew, the new starting quarterback for the Las Vegas Raiders, likens himself to the point guard on the Blackhawks, not trying to do too much on Luke Gates’ offense except let other players create, NFL Network reports. ( thaisiambet )

Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce has decided to select Minshew as the starting quarterback for Week 1 of the 2024 season after the 28-year-old won the competition with second-year QB Aidan O’Connell, who started 10 games last season. 

“My job on this offensive team is to make good decisions,” Minshew said. “We’ve got guys that are ready to attack, give them the ball, play point guard and keep us on our toes. I think we’ve got guys that can make our game explode and can complement our existing play, really make it come alive.” 

For Minshew, he has started 37 games in his five NFL seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Philadelphia Eagles and Indianapolis Colts. 

Now he’ll lead an offense loaded with creative wideouts Devontae Adams, Jacoby Meyers and Trae Tucker and inside wideouts Brock Bowers and Michael Meyers, and Minshew knows he doesn’t have to be creative every time, he just has to distribute the ball to those five players. 

‘Playing point guard, helping the team, taking care of the ball,’ Minshu added. ‘Just trying to win in every way possible.’ 

‘I think if you do those two things, you’re going to have a good day, you’re going to get better, and you’re going to really enjoy yourself. And one thing I think is being a quarterback in this league is winning.’

‘If you win, nothing else matters and that’s what we’re going to do. We’re going to try to find a way to win games here.’
