Milano suffered a torn triceps during practice on Tuesday, and the Buffaloes sent the veteran linebacker to undergo surgery and are out indefinitely.

“Matt’s a tough young man,” McDermott said of Milano. “I know he’ll handle it. It’s tough, especially after the year he’s had. The good thing is he’s got a great family that supports him, teammates that support him, and our coaching staff and our entire football organization.”

‘He has patience and we have to be patient. We have to move forward and focus on solving the problem.’

McDermott also said it’s too early to know if Milano will return this season, given the timeline for his hamstring injury, which is March at the earliest, so the 30-year-old linebacker could be back in the playoffs.

This is the second consecutive season that Milano has been injured, as the 30-year-old suffered a broken leg in Week 5 of the 2023 season, which will keep him out for the rest of the season. The injury has left the Buffaloes relying more on second-year starter Dorian Williams next season.
