Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike McDonald hailed Geno Smith’s performance after the 34-year-old quarterback made a crucial late drive to lead his team to a 20-17 win over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, NFL Network reported. wintime999

The Seahawks trailed 13-17 midway through the final quarter before Smith unleashed an 11-play, 80-yard drive that capped off a 13-yard run into the end zone with 12 minutes remaining to seal the victory. It was the 34-year-old quarterback’s seventh comeback win since 2023. 

“He’s awesome,” McDonald said of Smith. “We talked about after we got the ball, we just kept playing. We talked about clearing the next room and playing rock ‘n’ roll. After he got the ball, we stopped the defense, forced a field goal and we came back and did it.” 

“We won the game, we know what’s at stake, we’re trying to turn the season around, we’ve got a bye week and we’ve got eight games to play to get ourselves where we want to be,” Smith added. “This is just the first step in the right direction for us, so I’m very pleased and happy with that.”

Smith had previously gone 0-5 against the 49ers, including playoff appearances, since moving to Seattle, before the 34-year-old quarterback led the team to a victory over their division rivals. 

“I just think about the perspective,” Smith said. “I smile the whole time I walk on the field. I walk in and it feels like they’re patting me on the shoulder the whole time. I feel like there’s no pressure. I think the perspective that I’ve had throughout my career has allowed me to play that way.”

‘Whenever something goes wrong, I never feel too bad about myself and I don’t feel too happy when something good happens. As long as you stay calm throughout the process, I think everything will turn out better this way.’  ( wintime999 )
