San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch says wide receiver Brandon Aiyak, 27, is making a “great recovery” since suffering a serious injury in October, NFL Network reports. kuiper999
Aiyak will sit out training camp and the start of the 2025 season as he rehabs from torn ACLs and MCLs in October, but Lynch said the 27-year-old wide receiver is making a good recovery.
“Brandon has done a great job of coming back,” Lynch said. “These high-skilled athletes tend to recover much quicker. It’s incredible how well he’s recovered and how dedicated he’s been. We’re so proud of Brandon and we’re looking forward to having him continue to be a part of this team.”
After a lengthy contract negotiation, Ayak had a rough start to the 2024 season, catching 25 passes for 374 yards and no touchdowns before suffering a serious injury in Week 7 that kept him out for the rest of the season.
“The relationship was good,” Lynch said. “Brandon was here, he had a bad injury. Everybody saw the Kansas City game. It was heartbreaking because Brandon was a big part of who we are. When I look back at Brandon’s situation, I think every situation you face in life, in football, in this job, it’s a learning opportunity. I look at things like, ‘What could we have done differently to make things go better? ‘
‘Sometimes these things are hard, they can be conflicting. There are some things that I’ve learned that, yeah, would we have done something different? Brandon and I have talked about, would there be something he would have done differently? Absolutely. But there’s one thing that I think in a family, you have a little argument and then at the end of the day, you give each other a big hug and you work together. And that’s where we’re at. ‘
Lynch also spoke about Aiyak’s four-year, $120 million contract extension ahead of the 2024 season, saying, “We’ve invested a lot in him. We’re proud he’s part of our franchise and we’re looking for a lot of good things from him. We’re going to let him do his thing before he gets back on the court, but he’s a big part of this team.” ( kuiper999 )
