Jackson, a third-round pick in the 2022 draft, spent the first four years of his career with the Detroit Lions before signing a three-year, $51 million deal with the Rams in the 2024 offseason. However, the 28-year-old guard suffered a fractured patella in Week 2 and was benched after recovering, playing in just four games last season before being traded to Chicago, where he’s ready to start anew in a familiar NFC North.
“It’s all about how you bounce back,” Jackson said. “I’m excited to come back and finish the season and get a ring.”
Winning a championship will require a big leap from the Bears, who are coming off a 5-12 season in 2024 and a 15-year absence from the playoffs, but Jackson hopes to make that recovery happen by reuniting with former Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.
‘Winning it all, the Bears are a historic franchise and they’ve been there before. We’re excited to be a part of turning it around.’
‘I was part of a turnaround before and we can definitely do it again.’
Jackson worked with Johnson in Detroit for four years, which gives him confidence he can adapt quickly. ‘What I bring to the offensive line, in my leadership role, my work ethic, my effort and the pressure in the beginning and the end,’
‘I feel like my ability to hold the group together, we always joke around and call me Elmer’s Glue, Elmer’s Glue, holding the group together as a strong offensive line that’s ready to work and protect the players behind me.’
The 28-year-old guard believes he can help better protect Caleb Williams, who was sacked a league-high 68 times in his rookie season, after Jackson joined the team as part of an upgraded offensive line that includes former Kansas City Chiefs guard Joe Thuney and former Atlanta Falcons center Drew Dallman.
Despite the pressure on Williams, he completed 62.5 percent of his passes for a franchise-high 3,541 yards, 20 touchdowns and just six interceptions. ( kuiper999 )
“He had 68 sacks and he’s still fighting and he’s still going,” Jackson said of Williams. “You’ve got to keep him safe. You’ve got to keep your eyes on him on the field and not get caught up in the rush. He can have fun out there and get through anything.”
