Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy has confirmed he will not move Rookie Defensive Player of the Year Micah Parsons to defensive end even though Randy Gregory is set to sign with the Denver Broncos, NFL Network reported Wednesday.  ( kindee1688 )

During his rookie season, Parsons helped shore up the Cowboys’ defense after injuries and the need for edge rusher after Gregory signed with the Broncos, leading to questions over whether Dallas should move Parsons to defensive end, but McCarthy disagreed.

‘People who say, ‘Hey, why don’t you play him at defensive end? Fair enough, that’s a fair question,’ McCarthy said. ‘But we made it clear, we want him to move around.’

Parsons entered the NFL as an ‘off-ball’ linebacker and shone in that role. McCarthy then moved him to defensive end after Marcus Lawrence suffered a broken foot and Gregory, where Parsons shined as an ‘edge rusher,’ but the Cowboys will use him at linebacker and may move him to ‘edge rusher’ at times.

“It would be easy to put him in the tight end position and have him play every down, but the truth of the matter is he had 13 sacks,” McCarthy said. “Seven of them were linebackers, six were defensive end.”
