The Chicago Bears have kicked off their rebuild process by offloading veteran outside linebacker Willie Young to save $4.5 million in salary and prepare for a new defensive front.   kindee1688

The Bears signed Willie Young under Phil Emery prior to the 2014 season before current GM Ryan Pace extended him in 2016. He played in all 16 games that season and recorded 7.5 sacks, but only played four games the following season before being placed on the injured list. 

Willie Young will turn 33 in September, so the Bears could release him to save $4.5 million in 2018 salary, while linebacker Pernell McPhee, who turns 29 in December, could be on the cards as current head coach Matt Nagy looks to build the team around young players.

“It’s part of the process for us, for Ryan (Pech) and myself and the coaching staff, to determine the direction we want to go and how we want to do this,” Nagy said. “For us, it’s something that happens with two or three players who are older.
