Eight players have withdrawn from England squad for matches against Greece and Ireland.

Caretaker boss Lee Carsley, who will be in charge of the final camp before Thomas Tuchel takes over on a permanent basis, will be without a number of players after Aaron Ramsdale, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Levi Colwill, Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, Cole Palmer, Jack Grealish and Phil Foden withdrew from the squad.

“(Gareth) Southgate brings joy to playing for England,” Kane said.

“Everyone in the camp is excited to be here. Everyone in the camp wants to play for England and that’s the most important thing.”

“I think England comes first, England comes first, England comes first, that’s the most important thing as a professional footballer.”

“Gareth is very mindful of this and he is not afraid to make decisions if some players start to deviate.”

Asked if he felt that feeling had faded from the players, Kane said: “It’s a shame this week, obviously. It’s a tough time of the season and maybe it’s been taken advantage of a little bit.”
