Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Pouls officially confirmed the appointment of Ben Johnson as the 19th head coach in the franchise’s 105-year history on Tuesday, replacing Matt Eberflus, who was fired from the position on Nov. 29, ESPN reported. hotfuns

According to a report from PSN’s Adam Schefter, Johnson is currently assembling his staff, with former New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen the front-runner to become defensive coordinator, while Saints acting head coach Darren Rizzi could be brought in to become special teams coach.
The Bears’ offense will benefit from the creativity Johnson has shown as the Detroit Lions’ offensive coordinator over the past three seasons. He helped the Lions rank first in play-action usage last season (36 percent) while the Bears ranked 30th. Detroit also used the fifth-highest rate of pre-snap movement while Chicago ranked 19th.
