Fati, who returned from Brighton after a loan spell this summer, impressed in the first week of pre-season training under German manager Hansi Flick before the 21-year-old forward suffered a metatarsal injury in training on Tuesday, meaning he will miss the club’s training camp and the friendly in the United States.

Fati is reportedly suffering from plantar fasciitis, an injury that is difficult to assess. The 21-year-old is expected to initially require at least three weeks to recover, but could be sidelined for up to two months if the injury worsens.

Fati is now the third player in Flick’s squad to suffer a fitness issue, following Pedro Gonzalez Lopez Pedri and Ronald Araujo, with the latter set to miss four months of treatment after undergoing surgery in Finland to repair a hamstring injury.
