Arsenal confirmed on Monday that Edu has left his role as the club’s sporting director, bringing an end to a five-year tenure at the club, which began in 2019 when he returned to the role of technical director before moving on to become sporting director three years later.
Edu, who played for Arsenal for several years and was part of the side that won the Premier League title in 2004, said: “This is an incredibly difficult decision.
“Arsenal have given me the opportunity to work with some amazing people and be part of the club’s history.”
“It’s been a special journey and I’d like to thank Stan and Josh (Kronkey), Tim (Lewis) and Lord Harris for their support.”
“I love working with so many great colleagues across our men’s, women’s and academy teams, especially Mikel (Arteta), who has become a great friend.”
“Now it’s time to pursue a different challenge. Arsenal will always be in my heart. I wish the club and the supporters nothing but the best and good luck to everyone.”
The Athletic reports that the former Brazilian is set to join a consortium owned by Tomi Evangelis Marinakis, which includes Nottingham Forest, Olympiacos and Rio Ave. ( wintime999 )
