cup1688 The Oakland Raiders decided to trade Khalil Mack for two first-round draft picks from the Chicago Bears on Saturday.

The Oakland Raiders have agreed to trade star pass rusher Khalil Mack to the Chicago Bears in exchange for two first-round draft picks, three third- and sixth-round picks, making him the most valuable defensive player in NFL history, ESPN reported Saturday.  cup1688

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Raiders have agreed to trade Mack, a 27-year-old pass rusher, to the Bears for a huge sum that would make him the NFL’s most valuable defensive player after the Bears gave up two first-round draft picks in 2019 and 2020, as well as a third-round pick in 2020 and a sixth-round pick in 2019.  

The Bears will get Mack, the league’s top pass rusher, along with a second- and fifth-round draft pick in 2020 from the Raiders. 

The reason the Raiders decided to trade Mack is because the player is in the last year of his contract and doesn’t see the opportunity to sign a long-term, huge salary-cap deal, as Oakland has only $7 million left on its salary cap this year, while the 27-year-old pass rusher needs to be paid the league’s best receiver, who is likely to earn $23 million per year. But the Raiders, under head coach Jon Gruden, have been unable to meet Mack’s demands. 

The Bears could pay Mack $13.8 million in 2018 salary, then they’ll negotiate a long-term deal in the same vein that Aaron Donald signed a long-term deal with the L.A. Rams on Friday. 

Donald just signed a six-year, $135 million deal, including $87 million guaranteed, so the Bears will have to pay a similar amount if they want to extend Mack’s deal long-term. 

The Raiders drafted Mack fifth overall in the first round in 2014. He has been a consistent performer, earning him the league’s best defensive player, three Pro Bowl appearances and two All-Pro selections.  ( cup1688 )
