Diario AS reported on Thursday that a judge had ordered Hugo Mayo to pay just €1,000 plus interest for sexual abuse in 2019, but the defendant will appeal.  ( sunlit1688 )

The 33-year-old right-back currently plays for Aries Salonika but the incident dates back to 2019 when the former Celta Vigo captain faced Espanyol.

Before the game at the RCD Stadium, after shaking hands with Espanyol players, Mayo shook hands with ‘Ana’, the parrot mascot of the team. The verdict stated that Mayo put his hand under the mascot’s costume to touch her breasts without her consent, which the 33-year-old defender denied the accusation and tried to ask the court to find him not guilty.

The judge had originally ordered Mayo to pay 24 months’ wages but changed the decision to a fine of €1,000 plus interest of €10 a day for 20 months, which would amount to €6,000. The defendants will appeal within the next 10 days.
