Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski is hopeful of having a healthy quarterback available for the entire season after struggling with the position for the past three years, NFL Network reports. cosmo365
“I think that’s the obvious goal,” Stefanski said of having a quarterback who can play all season. “I think you look at teams that have had consistent success with having a quarterback there and healthy. Unfortunately, we’re not healthy at that position, and that’s a big challenge.”
Since the Browns traded Baker Mayfield to the Carolina Panthers and the arrival of Deshaun Watson in 2022, the former Houston Texans quarterback has failed to live up to expectations and has been plagued by injuries, limiting him to just 13 games in those three years. The Browns have used eight different starting quarterbacks, including Jacoby Brissett, Jameis Winston and Joe Flacco.
Stefanski also spoke about Watson’s recovery from a torn Achilles tendon last season, saying: ‘We’ll see how he is when he’s healed.’
The Browns are in need of at least one quarterback right now, with only Kenny Pickett physically fit and likely to select a quarterback in the draft later this April.
Asked if the Browns would use the No. 2 pick in the 2025 draft to select a quarterback, Stefanski said: “As we go through this process, you try to identify if there are players that we believe in, whether it’s in the first round or the seventh round, if there are players that we can bring into the team and try to develop them.”
“I think that’s another thing that people overlook when they think of them as a finished product, but they’re not. For us, whether it’s quarterback or any position, it’s important to understand that they’re going to have to make leaps and bounds throughout their careers.” ( cosmo365 )
