Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro has confirmed that both Xavier Alonso and Florian Wirtz will remain at the club this season amid interest from Real Madrid, who are reportedly keen to sign the pair in the summer of 2025, The Athletic reported on Monday.

Asked about the possibility of Wertz staying at Leverkusen beyond the end of the season, Carro believes the chances are high, but he replied with a snarky question: ‘Why wouldn’t the chances be high?’ 

‘As long as he has a contract here, as long as he feels comfortable here, as long as he knows he can play at a top level here, with a top team and can celebrate success, he’s happy.’

Wirtz is currently contracted until 2027, while Alonso has a deal with the club until 2026, but the Spaniard reportedly has a clause in his contract that would make him a permanent exit at the end of the season. 

Carlo clarified the issue, saying: ‘What I absolutely, 100 percent deny is any guarantees or agreements that I’ve heard from the media.’ 

‘The thoughts of the players, the coaches and the coaching staff and the club management who are here and now, we have a lot of work to do on the pitch until the end of the year. I always get annoyed when these rumours spread, I accept that.’

‘But it’s very important now. No one is interested in next season at the moment and nothing has been concluded. He has a contract at the moment.’ ( wilson88 )
