Talks are still taking place over a new figure, with those talks likely to conclude in this window, but the Daily Mail understands Branthwaite is prepared to hold off on extending his Everton contract unless they meet United’s offer.
For their part, Manchester United have now pulled out of transfer talks following sporting director Dan Ashworth’s latest conversation with Everton’s Kevin Thelwell.
The Toffees insist that the £45m price tag, plus £5m in add-ons, is not enough and United would need to come close to £70m to warrant serious consideration.
Since then, the Red Devils have signed Leni Yoro for £52m, but this summer they are still looking to add another centre-back, as well as a full-back, a midfielder and a forward, depending on who leaves.
