Mundo Deportivo reported on Tuesday that Barcelona are set to receive almost €3 million in compensation from FIFA over Ronald Arauo’s injury during a match against Uruguay at the 2024 Copa America. 

Araujo injured his hamstring in a game against Brazil on July 7 and has been out since then, with FIFA obliged to pay the player’s clubs under world football’s Club Protection Scheme, which provides financial support to clubs of players injured while playing for their national teams, under FIFA’s regulation.

FIFA’s scheme is applicable if a player misses more than 28 consecutive days due to injury, and Araujo has been eligible since August 3, when compensation payments began to be made based on the player’s salary and will continue until the player is ready to return to the field.

Barcelona estimate Araujo will return to action on December 15 against Leganes, meaning the 24-year-old will be out for 162 days and covered by FIFA’s compensation scheme for 134 days. 

If Araujo returns as predicted above, Barcelona will receive compensation from FIFA until mid-December totaling €2,753,432 million.( wilson88 )
