Amorim was officially appointed as Manchester United’s new head coach on Friday, November 1, following the Red Devils’ sacking of Erik ten Hag earlier this week.

The 39-year-old will take charge of Sporting Lisbon for the final two games of the season, against Manchester City in the Champions League in midweek and Braga in the league at the weekend, before taking charge of United on November 11. 

After taking charge of Sporting’s last match, a 5-1 win over Estrela on Friday, Amorim revealed he wanted to stay on as the Portuguese giants until the end of the season, but United wanted him as soon as possible, forcing him to make a decision quickly. 

“I asked United if I could go at the end of the season, that’s what I wanted, but United said ‘no’, now or never.”

“So I had to make a decision. No Sporting fan wanted me to stay until the end of the season as much as I did, but it was impossible.” 

“Some people say it’s about money. No, there were a lot of clubs that offered me three times the amount but I refused. United was the club I wanted,” Amorim said. ( superwin636 )
