‘Even though they’ve been through two or three times, they know deep down that when they face City, they’re not necessarily the best team.’

Speaking ahead of this season’s Champions League, he said: ‘I think it’s going to be a good tournament. I think City have been the best team in Europe in the last few years.’

He also hailed Manchester City as the better team every time they’ve faced Real Madrid, saying: ‘I still maintain that when they’ve faced Madrid, Guardiola’s team has been the better team on many occasions.’
