Barkley was still in Phoenix when the Eagles played in the 2022 Super Bowl, and the 27-year-old running back felt sorry for the Phillies after their heartbreaking 35-38 loss to the Chiefs, and now he’s only thinking about helping his new team get revenge on the Chiefs.

“Even though I wasn’t a part of that team, when you can develop that camaraderie and that relationship with them and be able to fight together, it feels like I was there,” Barkley said. “I know what it’s like to be there, like I’m not there, but I can feel it in my own eyes how I feel about them and see the wrong paper and have to walk away.”

‘I certainly don’t want to be a part of that. That’s definitely what drives us, for those who have been a part of it, but just want to get the job done and know what it’s like for those people, what it feels like, and do everything I can to make sure it doesn’t happen again.’

Barkley had a career-best 2,005 yards rushing in 16 regular-season games, scoring 13 touchdowns for 2,283 total yards and 15 total touchdowns. The 27-year-old running back also rushed for 442 yards in the postseason and scored five scores as Philly advanced to Super Bowl LIX. But none of that would have been worth it without the Lombardi Trophy.

“The only thing that makes it special, whether it’s the season record or the all-time record, whether it’s the playoff record, the only thing that makes it special is winning a Super Bowl,” Barkley said. “This career that we’ve been in, this sport, there’s so many great things that we’ve accomplished so far. But if we don’t do it next Sunday, maybe when you’re 30 or 40 years old and you look back, you’ll think how special it was, but it’s going to feel like you didn’t do it well enough.”
