Charlotte Hornets forward Grant Williams, 25, insists he did not intentionally foul his former teammate, Boston Celtics star forward Jayson Tatum, which led to his ejection from the court in the 109-124 loss to the defending champions. He insists that he did not intend to and that he is still good friends with Tatum, according to NBC Sports.
Former Celtics star Williams was ejected after a foul on Tatum, but Jaylen Brown was clearly upset with his former teammate’s actions. However, the 25-year-old Hornets forward insisted he had no intention of hurting his former teammate.
“I don’t know what it was about. I think that speaks for itself,” Brown said. “That’s not basketball. Grant knows better. There’s no room in the game for that. I thought JT and Grant were friends. I guess not.”
Williams later told the media: ‘It was a foul, it was definitely not intentional and it was not an attempt to hurt him in any way. We all know he’s one of my closest friends in the league.’
However, Brown was not convinced by what Williams said to the media, saying, “It’s definitely intentional. What are we talking about? Did you guys see the same play? He hit him (Tatum) like it was a football play. Ray Lewis running up the middle or something.”
Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla was more composed when asked about Williams’ foul, saying, “I’m glad Tatum’s OK. What I like most about him is he just stood up, didn’t react, didn’t react at all, stood up, went to the foul line and did his job.”
‘I like how JT handled it. It was great. To get hit like that and then get back up, it’s a big deal.’ Player1688
