Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan plans to make a quarterback change for Sunday’s trip to the Indianapolis Colts, with Mason Rudolph set to start in place of Will Lewis, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports. vox888

Lewis had a disappointing performance in a 27-37 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, completing 8 of 12 passes and throwing three interceptions, including a pick-six by Tigers safety Geno Stone, before being pulled from the field. Rudolph went on to complete 21 of 26 passes for 209 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, before Callahan decided to make a quarterback change ahead of Sunday’s trip to Indianapolis.

“You try to do the best for all the players involved, and the players who come out on Sunday want to feel like we’re going to put them in a position to win,” Callahan said when asked about the changes coming.

Callahan has tried to balance coaching a poor Lewis with making sure he’s putting the team in the best possible position to perform. The switch to Rudolph shows everyone has to share equal responsibility for underperforming.

Rudolph will start his fourth game of the season after filling in for Lewis while he recovered from a sprained rotator cuff. The 29-year-old quarterback has led the Titans to two of his previous three games, completing 63.0 percent of his passes for 1,015 yards, six touchdowns and five interceptions.

Lewis, a former second-round draft pick in the 2023 class, has thrown 12 interceptions this season, tied for fourth in the NFL, and has a 30.2 quarterback rating, which ranks 33rd out of 34 players. He has thrown for 1,916 yards, 12 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

With three games remaining in the season, the quarterback’s future is in doubt, as Lewis has yet to prove he deserves to be the starter next season, while Rudolph is set to become a free agent at the end of the season. But Callahan said he is focused solely on Sunday.

“We’re in a week-to-week battle right now, trying to figure out the best way to win football games, trying to perform as well as we can,” Callahan said. “Those questions are for after the season, when we have a chance to sit down and consider all the work and where we are.”  ( vox888 )
