“The victory is more important than anything else, we keep getting three points and are getting closer to Barcelona,” the Uruguayan, who scored once, said after the game.

“I am happy because today I have fulfilled my dream of captaining this great club. I am very happy, satisfied and proud to be on the pitch as captain of Madrid.

“It’s very special, I’m very grateful to all the captains, Sergio (Ramos), Nacho, Marcelo, Karim (Benzema), (Dani) Carvajal, (Luca) Modric, Lucas Vazquez.
