“I’m sorry I have a German passport,” Tuchel said when asked about becoming only the third non-British permanent manager of the national team, after some observers said the job should go to an English candidate instead.
He has been tasked with leading England to the 2026 World Cup, where they will attempt to end a 60-year wait for a major trophy.
“Nothing is impossible in sport,” Tuchel told BBC editor Dan Roan.
“The federation is trying. The women’s team can do it, the U-21 team can do it, so there’s no reason (we can’t do it).”
“At some point, we have to free ourselves from history. We have to focus on the process, and this will start in January,”
