Former quarterback Carson Palmer, 44, is returning to Santa Margarita Catholic High School in Orange County to become the head football coach of his alma mater, the Los Angeles Times reported. thaisiambet
Palmer played for Santa Margarita Catholic High School in the late 1990s and led the Eagles to two consecutive CIF Southern Section titles. He then attended USC, where he won the Heisman Trophy in 2002 and was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2003 draft by the Cincinnati Bengals.
“Santa Margarita Football is excited to announce former Eagle and Heisman Trophy winner Carson Paller as the new head football coach,” the school’s social media post read.
‘As head coach, Palmer aims to build a program that emphasizes not only athletic performance, but also academic success and character development. His vision includes creating a culture of hard work, discipline and perseverance that prepares student-athletes for the future both athletically and academically.’
Palmer will coach Santa Margarita in its first game of the 2025 season against neighboring Mission Viejo, head coached by former USC quarterback Rob Johnson.
Throughout his career, Palmer has thrown for a combined 46,247 yards, 294 touchdowns and 187 interceptions playing with the Bengals (2003-2010), Oakland Raiders (2011-2012) and Arizona Cardinals (2013-2017).
