The former 2014 first-round draft pick was injured in the first quarter after a helmet hit Josh Malone’s sideline in Monday Night Football’s 23-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

A statement from a spokesperson for the medical center said Chesier had to undergo evaluation for damage to his spine, which has left him unable to move his lower body from the waist down. 

“Ryan is expected to be monitored for the next 24-48 hours (as of Thursday local time) before he can return to the care of the Steelers’ medical team, who will be receiving guidance from UPMC.”
