Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Gallup has returned from retirement and signed a one-year deal with his former team’s NFC East rivals, the Washington Commanders, NFL Network reports. sudpung168

Gallup spent the first six seasons of his career with the Cowboys. He had a career-high 66 catches for 1,107 yards and six touchdowns in 2019 before tearing his ACL in 2021 and never quite recovering, leading to his release after the 2023 season. 

He agreed to a one-year deal with the Las Vegas Raiders last offseason, but decided to retire abruptly at the age of 28 before training camp in late July.

“I just think that leaving somewhere I’ve been for so long and going to another team and not being able to process it, because I’ve never experienced it before,” Gallup said of his decision to retire last offseason. “I was trying to process that and everything. I thought it was too soon for me, and I wasn’t there yet.”

After nearly a year of processing, Gallup concluded he still wanted to play, so he tried to maintain his fitness and expressed his desire to return two weeks ago until he accepted a new job in Washington. 

“I’ve stayed in shape all year because you have to maintain that fitness,” the 29-year-old winger said. “I know I’ll try my best to get back in the league when I retire. I’ve tried to stay fit. We’re ready now.” ( sudpung168 )
