sudpung168 Tommy DeVito hopes to play football again after being selected by the Blues head coach to replace Daniel Jones as the starter.
Tommy DeVito, a 26-year-old quarterback, said he’s trying to enjoy the game as the New York Giants’ starter against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday after head coach Brian DeBoll decided to remove Daniel Jones from the starting lineup, ESPN reported. sudpung168
DeVito, who entered the league undrafted in 2023, played in nine games with the Giants last season, starting six, and went 3-3. After Jones’ injury, he completed 64.0 percent of his passes for 1,101 yards, eight touchdowns, three interceptions and rushed for 195 yards and one score.
‘Last year was a good one and everything that happened,’ DeVito said. ‘The fun and the games that were out there were fun. That was the thing about last year. I’m still playing football now. It’s not like I didn’t play football before.’
‘The external things are on hold for the time being. I don’t talk to everyone around me, my inner circle. I want everything to run smoothly and make sure everything is about the performance on Sunday.’
DeVito began this season as the third-string quarterback, but he waited patiently for his opportunity because he knew there was more important business to be done on the field.
‘I think my mom sent me a couple of news stories, but I tried to avoid social media and outside things as much as possible. I tried to focus on football.’
DeVito had never had a chance to compete for a backup spot before the Giants signed Lock to a one-year, $5 million, fully guaranteed deal, but DeBoll surprised everyone by choosing DeVito over Lock.
“I wouldn’t say I’m surprised,” the 26-year-old quarterback said. “I’m open to any outcome. It’s something I’ve been trying to do since last year. You have to be ready. You never know.”
DeBoll, for his part, said the decision to start DeVito ahead of Lock was motivated by the same inspiration the 26-year-old quarterback provided last season.
“He’s still learning how to do things. He’s got good leadership skills. I think he’s been in the system for a year now and he’s got a better understanding of things,” DeBoll said. “He’s done a great job since he’s been here, really since we got him last year, and we’re going to work with him as hard as we can to get him ready to play.” ( sudpung168 )
