Warren had an impressive 2023 season, rushing 149 times for 784 yards (5.3 yards per carry) and four touchdowns, while also catching 61 times for 370 yards before the 25-year-old running back suffered a hamstring injury playing in Week 2 of the preseason opener against the Buffalo Bills. 

The injury will sideline Warren for several weeks and inevitably impact the start of the season, with starting running back Najee Harris expected to shoulder a larger workload or allow Cordarrell Patterson to play more minutes.

The Steelers’ offense is adjusting to the scheme of new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, who was hired this offseason, but they have struggled, allowing a combined 15 points in their first two preseason games against the Houston Texans (12-20) and Buffalo Bills (3-9).
