Stanisic out for weeks after right knee surgery hotfuns

Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl has revealed that 24-year-old defender Josip Stanisic will be out for several weeks after injuring his right knee in training and requiring surgery, Sky Germany reported on Tuesday.  ( hotfuns )

Stanisic returned to Bayern Munich this summer after spending last season on loan at Leverkusen, with the Croatian playing at right-back in the 4-0 DFB-Pokal first-round win at Ulm four days ago. 

Before the Bavarians were dealt a blow after the 24-year-old defender suffered a right knee ligament injury during training on Monday, requiring surgery the following morning and is set to be sidelined for several weeks. 

“Josip underwent surgery this morning and will unfortunately be out for a few weeks. We look forward to his speedy recovery,” Eberl said.

Stanisic’s injury has left coach Vincent Kompany looking to choose a new right-back for the Bundesliga opener at Wolfsburg on Sunday, August 25, with Sacha Boey, Joshua Kimmich and Konrad Laimer all likely to be available.
