Rennes recently parted ways with coach Julien Stephan after a dismal 4-0 defeat to newly promoted Auxerre earlier in November and brought on Sebastien Tambouret in time for the last outing, which saw Toulouse thrash them 2-0.

Rennes have officially announced the appointment of Argentine veteran coach Jorge Sampaoli as their new head coach on a one-and-a-half-year contract until the summer of 2026.

The 64-year-old has previous experience managing in France, having taken charge of Olympique de Marseille in 2021-22, and has also managed other top clubs including Sevilla, Atletico Madrid and Flamengo. 

He also served as coach of the Argentina national team at the 2018 World Cup, where they were eliminated in the round of 16 after losing 3-4 to France. 

For the post-international break, Sampaoli will take charge of Rennes, who are currently 13th in the table, in a trip to Lille on November 24. ( sakidbet )
