Austria national team manager Ralf Rangnick, who previously worked as Red Bull’s director of football, has hailed Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konaté, describing the 25-year-old as one of the best signings in RB Leipzig’s history, Canal Plus reports on Monday.

Konaté signed his first professional contract with RB Leipzig from Sochaux in the summer of 2017, before joining Liverpool in the summer of 2021 for a fee believed to be in the region of €40m, where he has remained with the Reds ever since.

‘I remember very well one day our scouting department at Leipzig showed me a clip of you at Sochaux and I fell in love with your game,’ Rangnick said in a video message to Konaté.

Rangnick also revealed how impressed he was with Konaté after meeting the player for the first time with his brothers in Paris. ‘I saw straight away that you are a very good person and a great player, who has been brought up very well. All this proves that you are without a doubt the best signing, or one of the best we’ve had at Leipzig in the last 12 years. ‘
