Poland legend Grzegorz Lato has criticised Robert Lewandowski for lacking the leadership qualities to motivate his team during their 1-0 defeat to Croatia in the UEFA Nations League A, speaking to Polish broadcaster Polsat Sport TV. ( zbet911s )

Lato, 74, who won gold at the 1972 Olympics and was the top scorer at the 1974 World Cup with seven goals, was unhappy with Lewandowski’s role in the recent defeat to Croatia, with the 35-year-old failing to show enough leadership.

‘A team leader should lead by example. If a game is not going well, he should stand up and shout out to his teammates with strong words,’ Lato said.

The legendary Polish striker also compared Lewandowski to Nikola Zalewski and praised the 22-year-old Roma full-back’s efforts.

‘I really like Zalevski, even in the game against Croatia he fought and ran as hard as he could, something I can’t say about any other player, even the best players. It’s not good enough to just point fingers and tell them to play here and there.’
