Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton has confirmed that rookie quarterback Bo Nix, the No. 12 overall pick in the draft, will be the team’s starting quarterback for the 2024 season opener against the Seattle Seahawks on Sept. 8, NFL Network reported. ( thaisiambet )

Nix impressed in preseason games, earning Peyton the nod as the team’s starting quarterback ahead of Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson. 

“Bo Nix is ​​going to be our starting quarterback,” Peyton said. “I feel like, and I told you guys the last two or three weeks, that room is great. (Jarrett) Stidham, obviously, with his experience and working with Zach Wilson, all three of those guys, we have a tough decision to make when we go to the roster.”

Nix will be the first rookie quarterback to start in the first week of a regular season game against the Broncos since John Elway started in 1983. 

“Obviously it’s good to share the experience with a great player like John Elway,” Nix said. “It doesn’t matter when you start, it doesn’t matter if you wait or if you play right away. You just want to play and win and ultimately compete at a high level. That’s my goal at the beginning, to give our team the best chance to win.” 

Nix played in two preseason games and impressed, completing 23 of 33 passes for 205 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions, leading the Cavaliers in scoring on six drives.
