biggame1688 Kevin O’Connell admits Minnesota Vikings need consistency throughout game after only performing well in early game biggame1688

Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell admitted his team lacked consistency after Thursday’s 20-30 loss to the LA Rams, despite a hot start, NFL Network reports. ( biggame1688 )

The Vikings have started strong in the first quarter of their past seven games, most recently against the Rams, where they scored two touchdowns, but O’Connell’s team could not sustain the momentum throughout the game, making just two field goals on its final six drives as it lost 30-20 on Thursday.

Sam Darnold completed 18 of 25 passes for 240 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions and a 128.8 rating, while Justin Jefferson caught eight passes for 115 yards and no touchdowns. The two scores came from tight end Josh Oliver and wide receiver Trent Sherfield Sr.

“We didn’t stay on the field enough and weren’t on the field enough,” O’Connell said. “I mean, 50 plays, when it’s a game like this and their offense is making plays and maintaining drives and eating up a lot of time, it can feel like a short game for you as an offensive team when you’re scoring, either hurting yourself or getting sacked. So we’ve got to try and figure out how to mitigate that.”

The Vikings allowed fewer total yards (276-386), were 26-17 for first downs and entered the red zone 2-of-4, while the Rams scored all three times in the red zone, leading Minnesota to lose the last two games.

“I feel like the last two losses (I) hurt myself,” Jefferson, the 25-year-old wide receiver, said. “Not playing the way we wanted to play at times definitely hurt us in the long run.”

On the other hand, Vikings quarterback Darnold was sacked three times, including the final play of the game, by Byron Young, which resulted in a safety. Replays showed Darnold had his mask pulled, but the referee did not throw the flag.

“The quarterback was facing the opposite direction of me, so I couldn’t see clearly. I wasn’t looking, and I didn’t see the mask being pulled,” referee Tre Blake said after the game. “There was a player between him and the quarterback, so he couldn’t see. He was blocked, too, so we couldn’t see. So we couldn’t call the foul. We couldn’t see.”
