Evans is out for at least four weeks with a hamstring injury, while Godwin is out for the rest of the season with an ankle injury, so the Buccaneers are down to Sterling Shepard, rookie third-round draft pick Jalen McMillan and second-year players Trey Palmer and Ryan Miller, but Mayfield has faith in that group.

“I have faith in these guys,” Mayfield said. “I’ve obviously had a good relationship with Treb since last year, Sterling and Jalen, both of them played in the offseason and training camp. I expect them to be successful and play really well, and you know throughout the week, they’re on the same page about the game plan.”

‘As we continue to focus on that, we expect everyone to step up to a higher level and (we) continue to lean on our offensive line. (I) thought they played a great game.’

Mayfield has a 101.7 quarterback rating when both Evans and Godwin are his two main weapons, but that rating drops to 88.4 when at least one of them is out and to just 54.9 when both of his star wideouts are out.

Previously, Godwin had 50 catches for 576 yards, while Evans had 45 catches for 335 yards. Shepard was third with eight catches for 93 yards.

Mayfield is also optimistic that opponents not knowing where the ball is going could benefit the Buccaneers in the coming weeks.

“As we were planning this game, obviously without Mike and Chris, teams can’t play that way when we game plan with those guys,” Mayfield said. “It’s going to look different, but everybody’s got to do their job, everybody’s got to be ready and the next guy’s got to step up.” ( nuno168 )
